"If you're giving 100 percent and enjoying the ride, then you are living the life.” --Lakey Peterson
La Jolla, CA -- Friday, April 26th was the San Diego premiere of the groundbreaking film Zero to 100, which chronicles the rise of one of the most talented competitors in the new era of women's surfing. Lakey Peterson, ASP World Tour surfer and the 2012 U.S. Open Champion, was welcomed by fans at Surf Diva Surf School in La Jolla with proceeds of the night benefiting the Keep-A-Breast Foundation. All proceeds from the raffle as well as 20% of retail sales during the event were donated to the Keep-A-Breast Foundation. Over a thousand dollars was raised.

The event also celebrated the launch of SiempreStoked.com, a new surf blog created by San Diegan and Surf Diva surf instructor Heather Hargas. "My mom is a two-time breast cancer survivor, so I wanted to raise money for a good cause like Lakey and Aaron have done with other Zero to 100 premieres," Heather explained. She added, "I created Siempre Stoked to keep women surfers informed and share the stoke. You can't help but feel inspired after watching Zero to 100 -- Aaron did a truly amazing job."
The night was kicked off with an autograph signing and photo op with Lakey and Aaron, followed by tasty bites from Wahoo's Fish Tacos and sweets from Esther's Confections. A charity raffle included great prizes from event sponsors such as Hurley, Arbor Skateboards, Surf Grass Mats, and Oceanview Dental, just to name a few.
Surf Diva was a packed house as everyone squeezed in to watch the main attraction. The film, offering much more than just great surfing, takes you on an intimate journey through Peterson's challenging rookie year on tour, culminating with an epic win at the U.S. Open. Now available in iTunes, the film features awesome aerial footage from helicopters and drones—yes, drones—as well as a killer soundtrack. When asked why he hadn’t filmed more women’s surfing in the past, filmmaker Aaron Lieber explained truthfully, “There was no Lakey yet. As soon as I saw her surf while working on Nike’s Leave a Message, I knew she was going to do big things.” Lieber’s decision to dedicate a year documenting Peterson’s first year on the profesional tour has definitely paid off.
"The ultimate message of the film is to inspire people to be happy with their lives," Peterson said. "If you're giving 100 percent and enjoying the ride, then you are living the life.”
Izzy and Coco Tihanyi, founders and owners of Surf Diva were proud to host the action. "As the original surf school dedicated to women, we love to see the level of women's surfing rise," beamed Izzy.
"Lakey is proof that the girls are surfing better than ever. I know most guys wouldn't want to surf against Lakey in a heat!” added Coco. The twin sisters have been running Surf Diva since 1996 and have been regarded as one of the top surf schools in the world with surf and SUP lessons year-round for women and men, boys and girls.
Siempre Stoked and Surf Diva would like to thank all of the sponsors and guests who attended the memorable event, and for supporting the Keep-A-Breast Foundation.
